ISO 9001:2015 is the certifiable international standard that regulates quality management systems.

It is a rule that standardizes the quality control system of organizations. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an entity that brings together representatives from various countries to develop standardization rules in different areas of performance.

The new version was published on September 23, 2015, following an update in which 93 countries participated. More than one million organizations worldwide have three years to adapt their internal processes to the changes set forth therein.

ISO 9001:2015 certification can be very advantageous to maintain the seal, companies must follow a series of rules. In the eyes of potential partners, it is safer to do business with a company that has a management system in accordance with the standard.

Companies whose management follows the ISO 9001 standard are obliged to consider expectations and avoid the repetition of failures. Organizations also use ISO 9001 as a way to continuously improve their internal processes, thus obtaining higher performance.

This International Standard is based on the principles of quality management described in ISO 9000. The principles of quality management are:

  • Customer focus;
  • Leadership;
  • Commitment of people;
  • Focus on processes;
  • Improvement;
  • Evidence-based decision making;
  • Relationship management.

This International Standard promotes the adoption of a process approach in developing, implementing and improving the effectiveness of a quality management system to enhance customer satisfaction by meeting customer requirements.

The process approach involves the systematic definition and management of processes and their interactions, in order to achieve the intended results in accordance with the quality policy and strategic direction of the organization. The management of processes and the system as a whole can be achieved using the PHVA cycle with an overall risk-based thinking approach aimed at taking advantage of opportunities and preventing undesired results.

The application of the process approach in a quality management system allows:

  • understanding and consistency in meeting requirements;
  • b) the consideration of processes in terms of added value;
  • c) the achievement of effective process performance;
  • d) the improvement of processes based on the evaluation of data and information.
